I gave the talk below to the anaerobic digester community at the 2010 National AgStar Conference.  Mark Trexler talks about three possible scenarios for carbon prices in the future:

  1. The US carbon market goes away.  Carbon has no value.
  2. Cap-and trade passes, but given poltiical compromise, it has little environmental integrity.  Carbon is worth $15-$25/ton.
  3. The policy needed to mitigate catastrophic climate change is passed.  Carbon is worth $50+/ton.

I calculate the value of carbon under these scenarios to a 2,500 cows anaerobic digester project at a dairy farm in the presentation below:
